FLAX AND PARK EARN EMERITUS STATUS

VCU/MCV and the Dept of PM&R have promoted Herman J. Flax, MD and Herbert Park, MD to "Professor Emeritus" status acknowledging their lifetime contributions to the Dept and field of PM&R.

Dr. Herman J. Flax is a 1940 graduate of MCV School of Medicine and practiced physiatry for nearly 45 years, much of it is as Chief of Rehab Medicine in Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. He is a past president of the American Congress of Rehab Medicine (ACRM) and International Rehab Medicine Asso (IRMA). He has over 50 honors and recognition's by distinguished organizations (including ACRM, AAPMR, AMA, IRMA) and over 100 scientific publications. In 1994,
Dr. Flax donated nearly 500 volumes of his personal medical library (dated 1542 to 1992), including an exceptional collection of PM&R medical and alternative medicine books to the VCU/MCV Dept of PM&R and the VCU/MCV Tompkins-McGaw Library.
Additionally, The "Herman J. Flax Resident Education Leadership Award" and the "Flax PM&R Professorship" were established by use of permanent endowment funds by Dr. Flax. He has further increased his generous support to the Dept of PM&R in 2001 by additional contributions to the FLAX FUND at the MCV Foundation.

Dr. Herbert  Park
(1921-2004) was an MIT PM&R Graduate (his residency class included Tom DeLorme) and he was the 181st member to the Board of PM&R. He arrived at MCV in 1952 as professor and served as the dept's 2nd PM&R Chairman (1952-60) and Director of The Baruch Center. He Praticed PM&R in Richmond, botn private practive and as a MCV Clinical Professor. Dr. Park donated memorabilia from his more than 50 years of PM&R practice to VCU PM&R.

In Memory of Dr Park, VCU PM&R has established the Herbert  Park. MD Endowment Fund.
