The Fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine program is co-sponsored by the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and the Hunter Holmes McGuire VAMC. This is a one year clinical fellowship that will enable the fellow to sit for Spinal Cord Medicine boards in the future.
The fellowship offers a comprehensive educational experience in a variety of clinical and research settings carefully supervised by faculty at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affair Medical Center, Medical College of Virginia and at Children’s Hospital and provides training in the diagnosis and classification of various types of SCI, pathophysiology of the spinal cord and affected body systems, clinical decision making and management of traumatic and atraumatic SCI, urological and pain interventions, spasticity management, research statistics in SCI medicine, rehabilitation technology/engineering, exercise physiology, biomechanics and cognitive/behavioral management strategies for persons with SCI. A 2-year Research Fellowship in Advanced SCI Medicine is also available to qualified candidates.
One to two years clinical and research training in an accredited fellowship with exposure to intensive care consultation, inpatient rehab, outpatient clinics and pain management. Opportunities to work with M.D. and Ph.D. researchers in new and ongoing projects.
