BBQ:
Meet and greet with Dr. Wayne, May 15, 2005. Be there around 4:30 or so. Food at 5:30. BBQ attire. See handouts from meeting for directions and further details.
Orientation Packet:
Submit PMR brochure to Linda Kent (admissions) by July 27 in order for information to find its way to the MI’s immediately. Will need to inquire as to how to get this brochure into the orientation packets of the MIIs and MIIIs.
Orientation Blurb:
Aug. 8 from noon-1 p.m. We have a three to four minute slot to sell our club to the MIs during their orientation. Marcia and Meagan will be busy. If someone can give a little speech about who we are and what we do, it would be appreciated.
Student Activities Fair:
Kathryn and Luke in charge of this event on Friday, Aug. 12, from 12:30 p.m. until whenever the students finally dissipate. All other group members to help out as their schedule permits. We will need an attractive poster with giveaways (pens, etc.) in addition to informational pieces (PMR mission statement, brochures, etc.).
Lunchtime Lectures:
Houman and Kathryn take the lead in scheduling and organizing these events (everyone else to chip in as needed). Tentatively plan on having three lectures next year (fall, winter, spring). IMPORTANT: the first lecture to be held mid-September after an announcement to the M1/M2 class about PMR and before students select their electives. M1 elective: Jan-Feb. M2 elective: Oct-Dec. Should we double check when students have to sign UP for the electives? Note: the group seemed pleased with Aaron’s suggestion of having a lecture on manipulation during the MII MuskSkel course.
Volunteerism:
Encouraging participation in the Therapeutic Outreach program where PMR inpatients are taken out into the community. Contact is Billy Perkins. Perhaps this would be a good thing to do with new PMR “recruits” attract from the incoming class.
Presidents requested $360 for lunch lectures from the Alumni Fund. We will wait to hear what money we actually get! Keep us posted, Luke.
GMail is no more. New email is: mcvpmr@yahoo.com. New password is: physiatry. Anthony has updated the contacts list. He will need all the MI, MII and MIII student names and emails interested in PMR to put into the contacts list. He plans to play with the calendar section later as he is currently post call and ready to die. Anthony will also be responsible for monitoring any emails the this new account and forwarding them to the appropriate party. He will continue to monitor the old GMail account for a short while.
Anthony obtained the addresses of those individuals who donated to the PMR SIG from Wanda and will soon be showering them with thanks via the old fashioned postal service.
Marcia will work on organizing general guidelines for future PMR SIG groups regarding timing of events, contacts, etc.
If anyone asks, MIIIs can get PMR exposure during their Neuro rotation at the VA (MuskSkel and Pain Clinics). There are also opportunities to steal away (with permission) to PMR clinics during Internal Medicine MCV Clinic rotations.
Dr. McK, if you please…
Correct PMR brochure as indicated during the meeting. And don’t forget to change the email to mcvpmr@yahoo.com. Also, please add Spinal Cord Injury-VA #6025 to the list of electives for 4th years interested in PMR.
